At the Suzan Johnston Organization, we really appreciate having students tell us about their experience in our nationally recognised training courses. This week, we are privileged to hear from one of our recent childcare training graduates.
In 2015, I decided to have a career change. I wanted to follow my passion in Early Childhood Development and was determined to undertake studies in child care courses. After spending a considerable amount of time researching various training organisations, TAFEs and Universities for a nationally recognised child care course in Melbourne, I discovered the Suzan Johnston Training Organisation.
I found my initial contact with them to be informative, welcoming and supportive pretty much from day one, so I made the decision to enrol in the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. Later on, I also enrolled in the Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care.
The child care training at Suzan Johnston is a good combination of in-class training and placement work. The blended delivery of their childcare course was vital in giving me a real understanding of the underpinning knowledge required in the Certificate 3 in childcare, as well as what a job in the childcare industry actually entails.
I always looked forward to coming to class as both my trainers in the Cert III in Child Care, Anne and Cristina, were helpful, motivating, and incredibly experienced in the industry. During my first round of placement in my Cert 3 in Child Care, I experienced some problems with the management at the centre I was placed at, and unfortunately I ended up having to change centres. Both my trainers were fantastic in supporting me through this by providing me with moral support and were generally very motivating. They truly care about their students who are enrolled in the child care course.
I later also completed another nationally recognised child care course with Suzan Johnston – my Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. Beneficial components of this course included our excursions to a child care centre in Eltham at which Tina was previously the Centre Director. I also enjoyed the trip to Recycle Rescue in Bayswater and the visit to Dymocks to discover popular books for children.
The timings of those trips were aligned really well with the units we were completing for the child care course at the time, helping to add to our understanding of the unit topics. These trips were informative, insightful and educational, and I personally got a lot out of them.
A small hiccup occurred one week before I was meant to complete my final Running-the-Room project, which was an integral part of the childcare training in the Diploma of Early Childhood Education. A misunderstanding with my room leader resulted in a rather frosty work environment and this completely disheartened me. I was worried that I may not be able to finalise my project and I reached out to my trainer and assessor, Tina, who was absolutely incredible. Her moral support and advice was very much appreciated and will certainly not be forgotten. It all worked out in the end, but Tina was certainly a very big part of this.
Through my placement work, I had found myself with employment prior to even completing my Diploma in Early Childhood Education course. All my interaction with the entire Suzan Johnston team has been professional and flexible. I would highly recommend their child care training and nationally recognised childcare course to anyone considering a path in the child care industry.
The Suzan Johnston Organization congratulates Stephanie on successfully completing her nationally recognised childcare courses here with us and for securing employment.
